Inspectors no longer accept a rota as evidence of safe staffing. Here is what they expect instead.

The expectation
You must show that staffing is based on the assessed dependency of the people you support, and that it flexes when needs change.
What good evidence looks like
- A dependency tool applied and reviewed regularly
- Staffing calculations linked to that dependency
- Actual worked hours compared against planned
- Analysis of the impact of gaps, agency use and sickness
- Evidence of action when staffing fell short
Common failures
Rotas that never change while dependency does, and no record of the decision-making behind staffing levels.
